There are four regional competitions. All applications are reviewed with up to 15 bands selected to compete in each region. Three winners from each region compete in Madison at the state finals competition for the grand prize:
- Les Paul Launchpad Award
- Free studio recording time
- Summerfest appearance
- Yamaha instrument/equipment package for the school of the winning band
